Oliver Stein kommt 2012 während einer Pilgerreise auf dem Jakobsweg zur Fotografie.
2013 lernt er den französischen Fotografen Nicolas Prache auf einer Ausstellung kennen.
Prache übernimmt die Rolle eines Mentoren für Oliver Stein und vermittelt ihm die Grundlagen professioneller Fotografie.
Ende 2013 nimmt er an der Seite seines Mentoren bei einer Gemeinschaftsausstellung teil.
In der Galerie Ulrike Petschelt zeigt Stein seine erste Fotostrecke in schwarz-weiß von den Maikrawallen in Berlin.
In den Folgejahren versucht Oliver Stein sich sowohl analog als auch digital in der Experimentellen Fotografie.
Seine Mehrfachbelichtung "Dystopia" wird ausgezeichnet und ist zugleich der Startschuss für die Serie "Noir Et Blanc"
Werke dieser aus Langzeit- und Mehrfachbelichtungen bestehenden Serie, sind auf einer Sonderausstellung 2017 während der Documenta 14 mit dem Titel "100 Tage Kunst zur Documenta" zu sehen.
Von 2013 bis 2019 dokumentiert der Fotograf für befreundete Konzertveranstalter weit über 100 Bühnenauftritte von Underground Bands bis hin zur Urgesteinen und wahren Größen der Hardcore - und Heavy - Metal Szene.
Schnell macht er sich dabei einen Namen für seine originellen Aufnahmen und seine unmittelbare und nahe Arbeit mit der Kamera an den Musikern, vor und auf der Bühne. Etliche Fotos aus dieser Zeit wurden in Metal Magazinen gedruckt und von den Bands selbst verwendet.
2018 wird Stein vom Kunstverlag International Graphics entdeckt und einige seiner Arbeiten
exklusiv unter Vertrag genommen.
Im Zeitraum von 2017 - 2019 schließt Oliver Stein erfolgreiche Fotoseminare bei Joel Meyerowitz
und Steve McCurry ab.

His multiple exposure "Dystopia" is awarded and is also the beginning for the series "Noir Et Blanc"
Works from this series of long exposures and multiple exposures are on display at a special exhibition in 2017 during the Documenta 14 with the title "100 Days of Art for the Documenta".
From 2013 to 2019, the photographer documented over 100 stage performances from underground bands to the veterans and true titans of the hardcore and heavy metal scene.
He quickly made a name for himself for his original recordings and his direct and close work with the camera on the musicians, in front of and on stage. A number of photos from this period are printed in metal magazines and used by the bands themselves.
In 2018 Stein was discovered by the art publisher International Graphics and some of his work
was exclusively contracted.
Between 2017 and 2019, Oliver Stein successfully completed photo seminars by Joel Meyerowitz and Steve McCurry.
